The Artifice Club, fresh on the heels of the highly successful Fall debut of the Mechanical Masquerade, are bringing their brand of social finesse and steampunk sophistication to the local Atlanta-based convention, AnachroCon.

Steampunk, a modern subculture based on retrofuturism and Victorian science-fiction, has made great strides in popularity in recent years, with many of its most distinguished members will be arriving to the premier southern symposium, AnachroCon.  In its third year, the convention celebrates alternate history in all its forms, from music, art, literature, and historic research and discussion.  This collection of esteemed folks seemed to be the best audience for the Artifice Club to host its formal Winter event, the Neo-Victorian Dance entitled “The Gaslamp Gala.”

Featuring the musical talents of the Ghosts Project, who have not only played alongside such noted musicians as Jill Tracy, Faith and the Muse, and others, but they will also be performing with long-time friend and maestro, Nathaniel Johnstone of the wildly popular and critically acclaimed group, Abney Park.

After their performance, the stage will be set for the stylings of Play it with Moxie.  A ballroom band that plays jazz delivered with class, style, and moxie.  Their music will be sure to have the lords, ladies, and sundries in attendance dancing with delight.

(UPDATE 1/15/11: We will also be delighted to host the amazing talents of the music duo, Frenchie and the Punk (formerlly The Gypsy Nomads), as they perform a preview set leading up to their featured performance with the Southern Steampunk Symposium. With between band entertainment courtesy of Carnival Epsilon!)

Filling out the evening will be the illustrious Doctor Q spinning his brand of eclectic acoustical arrangements until the late hours of the night, with a focus on Abney Park's latest release The End of Days.  This is sure to kick off the convention in style, with special VIP tables reserved for Artifice Club members only, complete with having their needs attended to by the lovely Miss Pinky Shear.  Do be sure to attend the Gala, and stay the weekend to be amazed by the convention as a whole!
